• A study is being conducted to identify a number of long term candidates for meeting future NAS ATM data comm needs — 50 year time horizon — Candidates have been identified • Initial evaluations of the candidates are underway to: — Quantify attributes and characteristics — Map to ATM uses / flight phases — Identify infrastructure / architecture needs — Identify vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies — Plan to evaluate costs (relative comparisons) • Before any candidate would seriously be considered for NAS operations, further analysis, stakeholder vetting, cost benefits, etc. is needed.
