Active energy loss reduction by sequential or simultaneous placement of shunt capacitors and distributed energy generators is the most commonly used strategy for optimal distribution system operation. An important parameter that affects energy loss minimization is the load power, which is not constant during operation and changes with time. This issue causes effortful and tedious computations, especially when shunt capacitors and distributed energy generators are simultaneously placed at the optimal consumption points of the distribution network. A solution for this concern is discarding load variations in computations, while load pattern varies the loss amount and may impact the optimal locations of capacitors and distributed generators. Therefore, the current study investigates the effect of load variations on the simultaneous allocation of reactive power compensation equipment and distributed energy sources to provide important remarks for distribution system researchers regarding the importance of load variability consideration in minimal loss calculations through the optimal installation of capacitors and distributed energy generators in candidate network places. This analysis has been conducted on a few distribution systems, followed by the results.
