Owing to the escalating trade of air cargo, cargo hub airports hold a pivotal role as transport nodes with transshipment functionalities. Amongst the various ground equipment scheduling procedures at cargo hub airports, the scheduling of trailers is considered a vital determining factor in enhancing the overall efficiency of cargo hub airports. In this study, the paper proposes a dual-objective trailer scheduling model that operates under a multi-task scheduling mode, which differs from the current single-task scheduling mode, wherein the trailers perform only one task at a time. The employment of a multi-task scheduling mode is most appropriate for cargo hub airports that have to deal with a large volume of scheduling tasks, as this mode enables the concentrated distribution of transport tasks and enhances resource utilization. In addition, the NSGA-II algorithm is used to solve the model in this paper, and the NSGA-II algorithm is improved by dynamically calculating congestion and adaptive crossover and mutation operators, which effectively reduces the unladen rate and ensures the efficient operations of cargo hub airports. The results furnish evidence for the efficacy of the proposed model in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of cargo hub airport operations.
