The paper deals with the development and the safety analysis of a multi-sensors frontal collision warning system (FCWS) for ground vehicles. This paper describes the system and the approach used to analyze it by taking into account the safety requirements. The system development is based on the fault tolerant concept using diverse sensors in order to implement safety critical warning system. The system involves two kind of sensors : infra-red sensors, like LIDAR, and microwave sensors, such as RADARs. The safety analysis based on safety requirements and functional decomposition have been conducted using failure mode effect and criticality analysis (FMECA) to identify the safety functions and safety measures to cope with hazards.
