A 1:4.36-scale hydraulic model of the proposed McGee Creek pumping station siphon was used to develop a design with adequate hydraulic performance. The saxophone outlet design was modified to ensure maintenance of the priming seal. Priming times and head losses were measured in the model. Modifications to decrease priming times were tested, including a reduced cross-sectional area at the crown, and air escape vents. The recommended design siphon operated satisfactorily for the entire range of expected tailwaters and discharges.
