Methods for estimating nearshore irregular wave conditions for the case of continuously shallowing bottom contours, given the bottom slope and offshore wave characteristics, are presented;. The methods are based on the work of Goda (1975a, 1975b) and Goda, Takayama, and.Suzuki (1978). A sensitivity analysis is performed to show the influence of various input parameters on predicted nearshore significant wave height. The methods are applied to the nearshore region at the CERC Field Research Facility at Duck, North Carolina, and results are compared to observed ncarshore wave height changes measured at the facility. Design curves are included.
