    The present invention is a yarder and a rope winding device for a yarder, which can be used in various locations and can transport carriers and logs in a straight line with a simple configuration. Included is a single main cable 14 arranged so as to reciprocate by means of a pulley 12, and first and second winding drums D1, D2 on which the main cable 14 is wound. A carriage 16 is provided which is attached to the main cable 14 and transports logs 24. Rotating shafts 21, 22 of the first and second winding drums D1, D2 around which the main cable 14 is wound comprise a main rotating shaft 26 provided coaxially and integrally. The first winding drum D1 is connected to a first drive motor M1 which can rotate integrally with the main rotating shaft 26. The second winding drum D2 can rotate with the main rotating shaft 26 by means of a planetary gear mechanism 30, and a sun gear shaft 32 of the planetary gear mechanism 30 is coaxially located in the central section of the second winding drum D2. A second drive motor M2 is connected to the sun gear shaft 32, and the first and second winding drums D1, D2 differentially rotate by means of the planetary gear mechanism 30.
