PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light emitting device which enables easy assembly, and to provide a display device.SOLUTION: A surface light emitting device 200 includes: a light emitting part 102; a diffuser panel 103; and a case 101. The light emitting part 102 emits light. The diffuser panel 103 receives light radiated from the light emitting part 102 to emit light. The case 101 supports the diffuser panel 103 while housing the light emitting part 102 and guides the light radiated from the light emitting part 102 to the diffuser panel 103. The diffuser panel 103 has a first hole 121, a second hole 122, and a first protruding part 124 provided at an edge. A middle case 101 has a first insertion part 114 into which the first protruding par 124 is inserted; a first protrusion part 111 which is fitted in the first hole 121 in a state where the first protruding part 124 is inserted into the first insertion part; and a second protrusion part 112 which is fitted in the second hole 122 in a state where the first protruding part 124 is inserted into the first insertion part 114.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
