To suppress a polymerization reaction or a self-decomposition reaction of 1,2-difluoroethylene.SOLUTION: According to the method, (1) 1,2-difluoroethylene (HFO-1132) and oxygen in a gas phase are made to coexist, wherein the concentration of oxygen at a temperature of 25°C is at most 1,000 volume ppm, (2) 1,2-difluoroethylene (HFO-1132) and the oxygen with the 25°C concentration of at most 1,000 volume ppm are made to coexist in a closed container, (3) the gas phase is lower than 80°C in (1) and (2), and (4) the gas phase coexists with a liquid phase containing a coolant.SELECTED DRAWING: None
