To reduce the power consumption of a monitoring unit while making the monitoring unit redundant in a monitoring device that monitors the state of a battery.SOLUTION: A monitoring device includes a main monitoring unit 4 that switches from an operation mode of a sub monitoring unit 5 from a low power consumption mode to a normal mode every time a predetermined time T1 has passed, and a sub monitoring unit 5 that switches the operation mode of the sub monitoring unit 5 from the low power consumption mode to the normal mode after the elapse of a certain time T2 when the operation mode of the sub monitoring unit 5 is not switched from the low power consumption mode to the normal mode by the main monitoring unit 4 during the elapse of the certain time T1. After whether one of the main monitoring unit 4 and the sub monitoring unit 5 is abnormal is determined, the main monitoring unit 4 or the sub monitoring unit 5 switches the operation mode of the sub monitoring unit 5 from the normal mode to the low power consumption mode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
