PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virtual image display device capable of preventing processing load on the device side from becoming large without frequently changing the distance from a user to a virtual image.SOLUTION: A video output from a projector 4 is projected onto a screen 5, and the video projected on the screen 5 is caused to be reflected on a front window 7 of a vehicle 2 so that it is viewed by an occupant 8 of the vehicle, thereby generating a virtual image 9 of the video to be viewed by the occupant 8 of the vehicle. An HUD 1 obtains congestion information for a side ahead in the traveling direction of the vehicle from a VICS center, which is an external server, and controls a generated distance L, which is a distance from the occupant 8 of the vehicle to the virtual image 9, based on the obtained congestion information.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】ユーザから虚像までの距離が頻繁に変化することなく、装置側の処理負担が大きくなることについても防止した虚像表示装置を提供する。【解決手段】プロジェクタ4から出力した映像をスクリーン5に投射し、スクリーン5に投射された映像を車両2のフロントウィンドウ7に反射させて車両の乗員8に視認させることによって、車両の乗員8が視認する映像の虚像9を生成する。また、HUD1は、外部サーバであるVICSセンタから車両の進行方向前方の渋滞情報を取得し、取得した渋滞情報に基づいて、車両の乗員8から虚像9までの距離である生成距離Lを制御するように構成する。【選択図】図1
