A system 200 for managing parking of vehicles comprises a user application 102 configured to allow a user to search for a plurality of parking spaces in an area and reserve a parking space for a vehicle based on selectable criteria. A remotely operable device 104, installed at the parking space, communicates with an access controller 106 connected to a barrier 108 to restrict unauthorised access to the parking space. The remotely operable device communicates with a remote server 110 and/or the user application to receive a command to open the barrier so that the vehicle can be parked at the reserved parking space. The system can also include an electricity meter 202 connected to an electric charging point 204 at the parking space. The electricity meter can communicate with at least one of the remotely operable device, the user application and the remote server to allow recharging of an electric vehicle whilst it is parked. The user application may track parking usage and electricity charging and charge the user as appropriate. Sensors 206 and cameras 208 installed at the parking space may monitor vehicles accessing the parking space.
