The invention discloses a road surface category recognition algorithm and system based on braking feature extraction, and relates to the technical field of road surface category recognition methods, and the method comprises the following steps: S1, obtaining the basic parameter information of a vehicle: obtaining the total mass of the vehicle, obtaining the distance between the mass center of the vehicle and the central axes of front and rear wheels, and obtaining the distance between the central axes of the wheels; obtaining the height of the vehicle mass center and obtaining the wheel radius; s2, calculating the normal counter-acting force of the front wheel and the rear wheel: calculating the normal counter-acting force of the front wheel and the rear wheel through a calculation formula of the normal counter-acting force of the front wheel and the rear wheel. According to the method, the physical attributes of the road surface can be directly obtained through calculation and utilization of the adhesion coefficient and the slip rate instead of being only based on visual features such as image textures or shapes, so that the friction performance and the stability of the road surface can be described more accurately.
