The invention discloses a system for detecting the fatigue state of a driver. The system comprises a three-dimensional sight tracking module, a head pose measuring module, a vehicle-mounted power supply module, a vehicle-mounted data processing unit and an alarm prompting module. Wherein the sight tracking module is fixed on the head of a driver and used for measuring three-dimensional coordinates of a staring point of the driver relative to the head of the driver, the head pose measuring module is used for measuring the position and the attitude angle of the head of the driver relative to a vehicle body, and the three-dimensional coordinates of the staring point of the driver relative to the vehicle body can be determined on the basis. In addition, the invention further discloses a method for detecting the fatigue state of the driver. The method determines whether the driver is in a fatigue state by calculating the number of fixation points of the driver within a latest period of time and an average value of distances between temporally adjacent fixation points.
