Systems and methods for controlling a vehicle are provided. In one embodiment, the method includes: receiving, by a processor, real-time lane width data based on a current location of the vehicle; calculating, by a processor, an in-path threshold based on the real-time lane width; receiving, by the processor, real-time distance data based on a distance between the vehicle center and the lane edge; calculating, by a processor, an offset value based on the real-time distance data; applying, by a processor, the offset value to the in-path threshold; tracking, by a processor, a location of an object within a field of view of a vehicle sensor system based on the in-path threshold; and controlling, by the processor, the vehicle based on the tracking of the object.
