The invention relates to a method for controlling an electronically slip-controllable external power braking system (10), particularly for a piloted motor vehicle, and a piloted motor vehicle. The external power braking systems (10) which are equipped with two electrically actuatable actuator units (12a; 12b) are known. Herein the first actuator unit (12a) comprises a braking request capture device (42-46) which can be operated by the driver and a first pressure generation unit (22a) for generating braking pressure in a brake circuit (20). The second actuator unit (12b) is equipped with a second pressure generation unit (22b) which is redundant in respect of the first pressure generation unit (22a). A first electronic control assembly (16a) captures the signals from the braking request capture device (42-46) and actuates the actuator unit (12a) according to the braking request captured. Monitoring devices (70) and methods for monitoring the power supply to an actuator unit (12) are also known. Impairment of function in the power supply to the first actuator unit (12a) can lead to the braking characteristics of the external power braking system (10) perceptibly changing for the driver and/or the external power braking system (10) no longer being fully operational. According to the invention, in order to minimize these effects, the actuation of the first motor (24a) of the pressure generation unit (22a) is prevented when functional impairment is detected and the second motor (24b) of the pressure generation unit (22b) on the second actuator unit (12b) is actuated to generate the braking pressure. Brake request capture and, where required, wheel-specific modulation of the brake pressure continues to be provided by the devices of the first actuator unit (12a).
