A distraction driving elimination system includes an image capture device located within a passenger compartment of an automobile and an analysis unit, wherein the image capture device captures imagesof a first hand and a second hand of a vehicle operator and a steering wheel; and the analysis unit has geometry and visual characteristics of the plurality of predetermined articles stored in the memory. The analysis unit receives the image and compares the image with a predetermined item stored in the memory to identify whether any one of a first hand or a second hand of a vehicle operator is in direct contact with the predetermined item without being in direct contact with the steering wheel to cause a distraction driving event. A distraction driving signal is generated when a distractiondriving event is initiated. When the distraction driving signal is forwarded, the indication system generates an indication that the vehicle operator is in a distraction driving event.
