The invention discloses a mechanical transmission method used in an engine for power transmission to wheels. The method is characterized in rim transmission. The rim transmission is edge transmission of the wheels. The edges of the wheels are parts which are located outside the one-third radius portion and pass through the portion above the horizontal line of the circle center. The edges of the wheels comprise peripheries of the wheels or portions outside the peripheries for transmission. The edges of the wheels are provided with stress devices or structures for receiving power. Power application points of an engine are located on the edges of the wheels. A transmission device for rim transmission comprises a gear transmission or belt transmission or frictional transmission or connecting rod transmission or chain transmission device. The engine comprises a motor or an internal combustion engine. The wheels include wheels of a rail car or an automobile; or shafts of the wheels are provided with driven wheels. The diameter of the driven wheels is one third or more of that of the wheels. The method is characterized in that internal gear rings are installed on wheel rims of the wheels, driving wheels and the internal gear rings form internal gear transmission through medium wheels, or the driving wheels carry out direct transmission on the internal gear rings.
