A monitoring system for braking slippage and traction wheel slippage comprises a braking slippage detector, an absolute elevator position detector and a controller. The braking slippage detector can detect the braking slippage from the moment when an elevator begins to be braked to the moment when the elevator stops operating and sends the detecting result to the controller; the absolute elevator position detector can detect the absolute position in the moment when the elevator begins to be braked and the absolute position in the moment when the elevator stops operating and sends the detecting result to the controller; the controller can obtain the total slippage of a lift car of the elevator from the moment when the elevator begins to be braked to the moment when the elevator stops operating according to the absolute position when the elevator beings to be braked and the absolute position when the elevator stops operating; the controller can obtained the traction wheel slippage according to the braking slippage and the total slippage of the lift car of the elevator; and the controller can respectively compare the braking slippage and the traction wheel slippage with the pre-stored threshold value of the braking slippage and the pre-stored threshold value of the traction wheel slippage and judges whether alarm signals are sent out and the lift car of the elevator stops operating.
