The invention relates to a system and a method for controlling running of electric vehicles according to the states of traffic lights. The system and the method are characterized in that traffic signals are received in real time, according to acceleration data and driving direction data detected in real time by direction sensors and acceleration sensors on the electric vehicles, calculating is performed to obtain highest available speed per hour, a speed limiting mechanism controls current and voltage of motors and/or controls brakes to start up so that the speeds of the electric vehicles are not higher than the highest available speed per hour, traffic disturbance is prevented, and traffic accidents can be decreased; the speed and driving direction data are detected by the direction sensors and the acceleration sensors disposed in the electric vehicles, controlling is thereby more reliable and stable.
