Abstract The Space Infrared Telescope Facility - SIRTF - will be the first mission to combine the sensitivity of a cryogenic space telescope with the imaging and spectroscopic capability inherent in large format infrared arrays. Its launch at the end of the decade will provide the entire scientific community with a powerful and versatile facility for the study of a wide range of astrophysical problems. Here we review SIRTF's capabilities for the study of cosmology and the early Universe.
