Abstract Previously-unpublished data from the Pioneer Venus multiprobe mission are presented, documenting key events in the entry and descent. The data comprise the latter part of the hypersonic entry as documented by accelerometers, and show the deceleration of the vehicle through the transonic region, and the deployment of the parachute. Such data are of interest for comparison with the DAVINCI mission under development, and the parachute deployment record is compared with those of other missions to inform the sample rate needed to characterize key events.
