Reference made to original pavements laid down in 1955/6 which were constructed with soil/cement bases by stabilizing cohesive soil occurring at airport; all later pavements were made by similar process, but single-pass train was employed for stabilizing bases in preference to multipass equipment previously used; advantages of this modification are noted; developments that took place during last 6 yr are described; pavement strengths assessed from actual flying movements since 1955 are indicated.
