Compares relative advantages of drydocks and floating docks; points out that with former the pumping work varies inversely as size of ship, while with latter this pumping is directly proportional to size of ship; transportability of floating dock is in many cases distinct advantage, its initial cost is relatively low, and its size can be increased much more conveniently than existing drydock; technical points which must be observed in design of flating docks; types of existing German docks, with special reference to those of self-docking type; design of dock pumping arrangements, etc.
