Emphasis is on methods of testing that would increase factor of safety in light weight aircraft construction; among suggestions is use of metals of high resistance to propagation of existing cracks and testing of parts, and even of entire aircraft, instead of more conventional testing of materials; examples are given; effects of ultrasonic and thermal stresses are included in discussion; fatigue problems of rocket and space craft are briefly discussed.
