Analysis of motion and aerodynamic heating of long range ballistic, skip, and glide type vehicles shows that ballistic vehicle appears attractive because convective heat transfer can be reduced by using blunt shapes; glide vehicle has relatively efficient trajectory, and possibility of substantial radiative cooling; vehicles compare favorably to very long range supersonic aircraft.
