After war, railroads began to order large number of passenger cars in effort to retain part of business acquired during war years; several ideas were given quick try-out and adopted by different railroads; many of these ideas had as their basis very large increase in amount of power which would be required for electric devices on cars; generator drives; batteries; axle driven generator; a-c power supply; Diesel power plants; load characteristics.
