Weighing only 8 lb, battery operated tool can serve as drill, wrench, screw driver, grinder or thread tapper; it was developed for Air Force Research and Technology Div's Aero Propulsion Laboratory by space engineers at Martin Co and tool designers of Black and Decker Mfg Co; one significant feature of new tool is its very low reactive torque; weightless astronauts in space would be sent spinning by uncontrolled reactive torque loads; space power tool boasts 96% less reactive torque than comparable power wrench; at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, it was tested in "Zero-G Flying Simulator"; tool has also been tested in Martin altitude chamber under simulated conditions of space 520,000 ft above earth; 2 of 3 features making this tool possible are new.
