Theoretical investigation was made of diffusion of traffic platoon as it moves down road; basic assumption of mathematical model is kinematic -- that speeds of cars in platoon are distributed normally; parameters of this distribution are related to diffusion constant that measures spreading of platoon; analytical and numerical solutions of model are presented and applied to problem of coordination of 2 successive traffic lights.
