In Lowell, Mass, and on four routes extending out of city, Boston and Maine has installed all new electric switch machines and signals, controlled from one machine, to consolidate control of layouts formerly included in six interlockings and three new remote layouts, as well as train operation by signal indication on 17.40 mi of double track including 10.86 mi of previous centralized traffic control.
