Formulation of process of fairing ship hull as linear programming problem, using mathematical equivalent of graphical spline or batten; surface equation that describes desired hull form can be used to calculate loft information needed for parts definition (shell-plate development, longitudinals, etc); method is intended to be sufficiently accurate for shipyard use; examples of application to specific ship surfaces are included.
