In analytical study flow is assumed to comprise potential and boundary layer regimes; use is made of solutions for wake-flow and heat-flux across incompressible laminar boundary layer; entire flow, and in particular shape of ablating profile, is determined by requiring that at every point on profile rate of heat convected should be equal to that absorbed in melting; it is shown that rate of ablation is proportional to square root of free stream velocity and is dependent on Prandtl number, while geometry of ablating profile is independent of that speed.
