Virtual image display provides means by which sufficient realism can be maintained to provide training in rendezvous and docking problems; it places images at their proper distance so that eyes will use their vision correctly; images are placed at distances with such realism that binoculars or optical rangefinders can be used to measure their distance; correct size of images is maintained by proper magnification and correct perspective by proper pickup and projection; dynamic virtual image display controlled by computer will supply good research capabilities.
