Corrosion inhibitors in the antifreeze include both inorganic and organic compounds. Organic additives applied in the antifreeze usually form thinner protective coatings. In spite of this fact, it is believed that they protect the exposed surfaces against corrosion more efficiently than fluids with inorganic additives. This work investigates whether the effects on the steel surface occurring due to the antifreeze meet key normative requirements. Microscopic imaging was used to identify the alterations in the surface invisible in the macro scale. The tests aimed to evaluate the potential of the antifreeze intended for combustion engines in the perspective of applying them in HVAC systems.
