Optimisation based on numerical methods has become key tool in the development of environmentally friendly and economically efficient hull forms. The paper is focused on optimization of wave making resistance for a river cruise ferry which will be powered by solar panels. An optimisation framework is developed by the authors considering the practical aspects and the non-linear potential solver is used.. Optimisation is carried out using the open source tool called Dakota which is connected to Rhino and SHIPFLOW using Python programs developed by the author. The advantage of the method is that it is highly customisable and can be easily extended to include any further calculations.
