The article deals with a proportional (P) - proportional integral (PI) variable structure speed controller intended for improvement of the quality of dynamics of electromechanical control systems. Using a direct indicator of quality of dynamics (the duration of controlling), the dependence of controller switching parameter on the static load and the command input signal was determined, which ensures the best quality of dynamics of the electromechanical speed control system. The Luenberger observer has been applied for the estimation of static load during the transient process of the electromechanical control system. The simulation results obtained using MATLAB/Simulink software demonstrate that P-PI variable structure speed controller implemented with Lookup Table 2-D ensures the dynamical deviation of speed of the direct current electric drive which does not exceed ± 5% and the zero steady-state deviation of speed.
