According to the survey of several second-tier cities in China, this article summarizes their main traffic characteristics based on comparison of relevant data. Then, the existing problems in the second-tier cities are analyzed from both the microscopic and macroscopic levels. On this basis, both the short-term and long-term strategies and measures to comprehensively improve traffic in second-tier cities are proposed. Finally the article takes the Mianyang City, a typical second-tier city, as an illustration. By using previous research to analyze its traffic characteristics and problems, improvement schemes are proposed and proved to be effective.
