This study proposes curved roads speed advisory strategy under connected vehicle environment to improve curved road safety and enrich the application of connected vehicle technologies. Based on field data collected from seven curved roads with different curvature radiuses, the characteristics of speed and vehicle trajectory were analyzed to explore drivers’ adaptability to speed on the curved roads. The drivers’ adaptability is applied to modify safety speed determined by critical conditions of sideslip and rollover. Based on the speed and acceleration of a vehicle collected by connected vehicle technologies, roadside units predict the risk of rollover and sideslip with rolling time windows and push the modified safety speed to the vehicle. Simulation results showed that the proposed strategy is effective in preventing sideslip and rollover while considering drivers’ adaptability.
