It is stated that an advanced transport system will help enhance economic performance and promote economic growth. This paper discusses the transport strategy for sustainable development of the Jiao Dong economic region in Shandong province, based on the analysis of the correlation between Yantai's GDP and its total transport volume as a logistics hub, because Yantai is centrally located in the region. Both marginal analysis and elasticity analysis of the correlation of Yantai's economy, along with its transport volume, demonstrates that the contribution of transport to economic growth and development has not yet realized its maximum potential. We conclude that Yantai's transport system could be expanded and improved to promote its economic growth, and thereby to promote regionally sustainable development. To accomplish this, several major steps are in order. First, it should quickly build comprehensive traffic networks to encompass a one-hour economic circle within the region. Second, it should fully engage in traffic infrastructure construction to draw internal demand, and lastly, it should establish an intelligent public traffic system to improve passenger transport services.
