This paper focuses on the topic of road safety when vehicles passing through critical road sites at nighttime with or without road lighting. The drivers' subjective feelings were analyzed by a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was designed using the Likert scale method and totally 477 effective responses were obtained. The reliability analysis and factor analysis were conducted to measure the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. A logit model was applied for the questionnaire to analyze the drivers' behavior. The result shows that road lighting at nighttime has a positive effect on traffic safety and most of the drivers’ driving behavior is more cautious when passing critical road sites at nighttime without road lighting. Compared to without road light conditions, drivers are more possible to choose lane change behavior. Under the condition of without road lighting, drivers’ awareness of risky degree is lower.
