In this paper, the observed trip chaining behaviors collected in the pilot survey on freight vehicle traveling characteristics in Northwest Logistics Park, Shanghai, are analyzed. The selected indicators include the number of trip chains, the number of stops, the distance of trip chains, and the distance between the stops and the base. The analysis for each indicator is performed based on the type of vehicle to reveal the underlying causes. Regression analyses are performed between the selected indicators and finally correlations are computed. Results show that a significant positive correlation between the number of trip chains generated and the two indicators (the number of employees and the storage area). The number of trip chains and the number of stops per trip chain have a negative correlation. In addition, with the increase in the number of stops, the distance of connecting trips decreases gradually and shows an approximate exponentially decreasing trend.
