The Bombardier-supplied Automated People Mover (APM) at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is one of the busiest and most complex systems of its kind in the world. Bombardier Transportation is operating and maintaining the system that operates underground with 20 hours of pinched loop service daily over 4.4 miles with an additional 30-minute 2-train shuttle at the end of normal loop service nightly. This paper provides details of how the Atlanta APM system is operated and maintained and how it has grown over the past 28 years to provide an essential transportation service around one of the world's busiest airports.
