High Speed Railway (HSR) systems are playing an important role in modern transportation infrastructures all over the world. Resonant vibrations induced in railway bridges by light HSR trains may be more demanding than the effects of heavy freight trains at low speed. The dynamic allowances prescribed by design standards for railway bridges subjected to low-speed traffic do not cover resonance. Design of HSR bridges combines dynamic analysis of peak resonant accelerations for checks of track stability and strength checks for the dynamic allowance resulting from analysis.
