Urban underground pipelines are an important part of urban public infrastructure and the lifeline of cities. Information management of urban underground pipelines also was important to urban underground pipeline managers. This paper proposes an improved QR-tree indexing mechanism for underground pipeline data management which divides the urban area into multi-level grid. The R-tree index was established by each grid that has the only code to achieve fast retrieval of pipeline data.
