This chapter reviews the major developments in microwave and millimeter‐wave holographic imaging. Holographic techniques are considered to be one of the most practical and successful microwave and millimeter‐wave imaging (MMI) techniques due to their widespread use in security screening. The recent developments have paved the way toward using these techniques in extreme near‐field imaging applications such as tissue imaging, nondestructive testing, and even in microscopy. The imaging time for holographic MMI systems can be divided into two parts: data acquisition time and image‐reconstruction time. The progress in expediting the data acquisition in holographic MMI techniques will transform them to a totally new level where data acquisition over an entire aperture can be performed within a second. In general, we believe that this is a leading technology among all MMI techniques in terms of practicality and speed. Its future applications will grow in accordance with the rapidly increasing demand for sensing, detection, and imaging devices.
