Car accidents and related forms of accidents are the major cause of death, where approximately 1.3 million innocent people die every year. Many of them are due to the drowsy state of the driver. High‐speed highway roads reduce the margin of error for the driver. A large number of people who drive for long distances every day and night usually go through the problem of extreme tiredness and may easily fall sleep for some while. To prevent people from such accidents, this system has been proposed to alert the driver if he feels drowsy. Facial detection is being used in this system with the help of image processing where images of the driver's face are captured using a camera. The algorithm in this system helps to detect the symptoms of driver fatigue earlier, which can prevent an accident by cautioning the driver by an alarm. In this driver drowsiness detection method, following the face detection step, the most effective facial components are extracted and tracked in video sequence frames.
