In the design of wireless networks, one critical issue is the medium access control (MAC) protocol. This chapter provides details of the protocols that define and control access to the wireless channel, i.e. wireless MAC protocols. It begins with the analysis of the protocols: slotted ALOHA (S‐ALOHA), carrier sense multiple access (CSMA), and inhibit sense multiple access (ISMA). In addition, the results evaluation of these protocols are presented. The chapter describes the operation of a proposed protocol based on CSMA‐code‐division multiple access (CDMA). It presents the performance evaluation and its corresponding results. Finally, the chapter proposed a MAC protocol based on CSMA‐CDMA for wireless networks and, through a simulation process, have shown that our proposed MAC protocol using thresholds improves the performance compared with fixed rates. access protocols; carrier sense multiple access; Multiaccess communication; wireless communication
