Even if urban logistic has been extensively investigated in the literature, its effects on traffic flow dynamic remain unknown. This paper aims to assess the impact of pickup‐delivery trucks on traffic conditions. Among city freight collaborative solutions, dedicated delivery/pickup areas may be implemented by city administrators. These public areas have to be shared by independent carriers. Currently used, it is today difficult to anticipate their impact on the traffic flow. To this end, we resort to a theoretical but realistic urban arterial where deliveries can be completed in double‐park or in dedicated area. Both solutions are investigated using a microscopic traffic simulator. Comparisons can be carried out using an aggregated and parsimonious indicator: the macroscopic fundamental diagram. It turns out that capacity and delays are less reduced when delivery areas are used.
