Aerospace Correlated‐Extremal Systems (CES) participate in high‐precision positioning, speed control, orientation control and in the process of aerospace vehicle arrival (or set point) guidance. Image sensors transform physical fields into electrical signals and can cause aperture and nonlinear distortions. The angular locations of the fixed stars are almost permanent and without parallax, so only the initial orientation and the subsequent rotation of the master image during astro‐orientation are needed. All CES can be divided into systems (i) that have master images in memory and (ii) that receive both images for correlation processing simultaneously. CES include sensors that transform different physical fields to electrical signals that a CESD computing unit is able to process. CES have been developed for both the precise measurement of earth satellite track angles, and the orientation of aircraft by heavenly bodies. Miniaturization makes possible many practical applications for combined and integrated CES.
