Unintentional injuries are one of the greatest threats to the health and well‐being of people around the world. Globally, although all people are at risk for unintentional injuries, young people and those from low‐ and middle‐income countries are differentially impacted. In the United States, in addition to age and income, injuries impact members of ethnic and racial minority groups unequally. Research regarding factors that increase risk for unintentional injury has identified several behavioral characteristics such as impulsivity and sensation seeking that increase risk. Lastly, the entry summarizes the state of the field with regard to prevention.
